Suspected armed robber arrested on return to UK

AN ALLEGED armed robber who skipped bail 18 years ago and went to live in Ireland has been arrested after he returned to the UK.

Colin Ashman, 41, was charged with being involved in a raid on a petrol station in Easton-in-Gordano, North Somerset, on September 16 1994 and one at Emborough, near Midsomer Norton, nine days earlier.

Both were said to have involved two people and included threats with a knife.

Ashman was arrested after giving his details on returning from Ireland, when records indicated there was a warrant for his arrest made by Bristol judge Simon Darwall-Smith.

The Recorder of Bristol, Judge Neil Ford QC, remanded Ashman in custody pending a review of the case on June 19.
